The longest beach on Koh Tao runs the length of the west coast: clear, shallow water you can wade into for a hundred metres, dive schools spilling their gear onto the sand, and no shortage of quiet corners to lose an afternoon. Slip on a mask, swim out ten metres, and there's already a reef, with sergeant majors and parrotfish going about their day.
Mornings are for the water, afternoons for a lounger and a coconut, and the golden hour before sunset is when Sairee shows off. It's the calmest, safest swimming on the island too, which is exactly why the whole west coast fills up when the light turns pink.

After dark
When the light drops, Sairee lights up. Ease into the evening with a sundowner at Ibiza Beach Club, the Mediterranean restaurant and beach club right on the sand, then follow the drums south past the beach bars, fire dancers, buckets and live music that make up the island's famous pub crawl.
It's social by design, and solo travellers rarely stay solo for long. And don't worry about the early boat: this is a diving island, so most places wind down by 2:30 and the reef is waiting again in the morning.
