Yoga on Koh Tao · Classes, Retreats & Wellness

Breathe in, slow down.

Yoga on Koh Tao: sea-view shalas, sunrise flows, breathwork, ice baths and retreats on Turtle Island.

The other side of the island

Koh Tao isn't only about diving.

The same things that make Koh Tao one of the world's great dive islands also make it a natural place to practise yoga: warm water, slow mornings, a small community and the sea at the end of almost every road. Divers come for a stretch between boats; freedivers come because breath is the whole point; and more and more travellers come for the yoga first.

The heart of the island's yoga scene is Blue Chitta, a yoga and freediving centre on the hillside above Mae Haad, a short walk from the pier. Its open-air shala looks straight out over the bay, there are classes every day from early morning to evening, and it is the place to go if you want more than a class: workshops, retreats and a full teacher training. After class, breakfast is next door at Prana Café, and for the most beautiful start to a day, join the sunrise flow at High the Moon, on a hilltop above Chalok Bay.

Pair it with a Thai massage after a day on the water at Infinity Massage, a spa afternoon at Jamahkiri Resort & Spa, or a one-breath dive with Apnea Total, and you have a week that leaves you calmer than when you arrived.

Retreats on Koh Tao

Stay longer, go deeper.

A yoga retreat on Koh Tao is very different from a big wellness resort. Groups are small, the island is quiet once the dive boats are back, and the sea is always part of the programme. Most retreats mix daily yoga with breathwork, meditation, healthy food and time in the water.

Blue Chitta runs several kinds of retreat: holistic yoga and freediving retreats on set dates, and a self-retreat that starts any day of the week, so you can arrive on the ferry that suits you. You stay on site, eat at its holistic Prana Café, join the classes and workshops you want and spend the rest of the day by the sea.

For those who want to teach, it also runs a 200-hour Yoga Alliance teacher training that blends Ashtanga, Yin, breathwork and sound healing: one of the most memorable places in Thailand to earn your certificate.
