Koh Tao is small, but after dark it punches well above its size. Once the dive boats are back and the sun drops behind Sairee, the beach bars fill up, fire shows spark on the sand, and the music runs late. Here is how nightlife works on Koh Tao, and where to be on any given night.

Sairee Beach: the heart of it

Almost every night on Koh Tao starts in Sairee. The long strip of beach bars on the west coast is where the island gathers for sunset, and where most nights begin. Tables in the sand, buckets, fire shows after dark, and bars that drift from chilled sundowners into full dance floors as the night goes on. Mae Haad and Chalok are quieter, better for a relaxed drink than a big night out.

The classic Koh Tao night is barefoot on Sairee: a fire show on the sand, a bucket in hand, and a bar that does not really close. It has the same energy as Koh Phangan Full Moon, on a smaller and friendlier scale, and it happens most nights of the week, not once a month.

The big nights of the week

Beyond the beach bars, a handful of recurring parties anchor the week. Line-ups and venues rotate, so the exact dates move around, which is why we keep a live agenda rather than a fixed list. The regulars to know:
