Assava Dive Resort sits on Koh Tao's southern beach in Chalok Baan Kao. It's a PADI Career Development Centre, one of the highest ratings PADI gives a dive shop, which means training here runs the whole way from a nervous first breath underwater to becoming an instructor yourself.
The full ladder is on offer: a Discover Scuba Diving intro for beginners, Open Water and Advanced certifications, Rescue and Divemaster, and instructor development courses at the top. Fun dives take certified divers out to Koh Tao's pinnacles, wrecks and reefs, with small groups the norm throughout.
It's a resort as much as a dive centre, so it keeps you on one beachfront: rooms to sleep in, a pool to cool off in and The Cove restaurant right on the sand. The south beach at Chalok is quieter than Sairee, which suits the dive-eat-sleep rhythm well.
